The ranking that covers jobs earning $140,870 or more is based on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ annual mean wage data for all professions in Greater Philadelphia as of May 2019, the most recent available data.
Obstetricians and gynecologists occupy the top position on the list for the Philadelphia region with an average pay of $273,300. This is significantly above the national average of $201,440 for the same position.
Anesthesiologists are second at $271,710, followed by surgeons, except ophthalmologists, in third place with $264,750. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are in fourth place at $264,750.
The only non-healthcare profession to break the top ten is chief executives in fifth place with $250,530.
General internal medicine physicians with $229,460 in annual mean wages came in sixth, physicians and ophthalmologists, except pediatric, at $222,420 ranked seventh, and psychiatrists with $205,330 are eighth.
