Ardmore Paralympian Gold Medalist is Marketing Director at Overbrook School for the Blind
Pamela McGonigle, an Ardmore resident and Paralympian gold medalist, has made running to work for her new job at Overbrook School for the Blind a part of her daily commute, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for the Main Line Times.
McGonigle, who has been legally blind since birth, is the new director of development and communications at the school. To make sure she is safe on her runs, she takes each trip accompanied by her guide dog, Maida.
“I can’t see a foot in front of me, and yet my dog and I are running to school, and that’s how we are commuting,” said McGonigle.
The athlete has competed in the Paralympics four times, from 1992 through the 2004 games in track and field. She won her gold medal in the 3000-meter race in her first appearance in 1992. She also took home bronze medals in the 800 and 1500-meter races.
Prior to her new position as marketing director, McGonigle worked at the Overbrook School for the Blind as a substitute teacher. Most recently, she was the lead development officer for the United States Association of Blind Athletes.
