Chris Howard, a junior and Cadet Second Lieutenant and Battery Section Leader at Valley Forge Military Academy, has been recognized as the Main Line Student of the Week, writes Bruce Adams for Main Line Media News.

This year, Howard has received The Nancy L. Wenzel Memorial Scholarship for Athletic Achievement, The Harvey Medal for English 3rd Class, and The Harvey Medal for Math 3rd Class, among numerous others awards. He was also named Best Cadet of the Month in September 2018, won the Dawn 2 Dusk Service Award in 2019, and took part in the PA Seed Environmental Literacy Hackathon in January.

As part of the hackathon, Howard and his group designed a digital map for people to post the location of events that are meant to benefit the area, including an advertisement to clean up parks. The group won second place for their idea.

“My experience at the hackathon taught me that taking a simplistic approach to challenging questions can prove fruitful,” said Howard, a native of Middletown, N.J. “An idea doesn’t necessarily have to be complex to be innovative.”
