Despite a journey fraught with problems and delays, a statue of former U.S. Golf Association president Sandy Tatum created by Glenside sculptor Zenos Frudakis has made it to the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco on time, writes Joe Juliano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The cross-country odyssey was especially hard on Frudakis, who was commissioned to create the statue two years ago.

After several pandemic-related delays, the artist had just four days to send the completed statue to its destination. “So we hired a special truck that took delicate instruments and computer stuff,” said Frudakis.

The first obstacle occurred when the truck overturned in Missouri, causing minor damage to the piece. The traveling woes continued when the company towing the truck took the sculpture to its yard and demanded $15,000 to release the artwork.

The money was wired to the company within two days and new drivers resumed the trip. However although late, the statue still arrived in time to be installed the day before the start of the PGA Championship on August 1.
