Shoppers Flock to King of Prussia Mall After Reopening

A Simon - Taubman deal that was originally set to be made for $52.50 per share of Taubman has now been revised for just $43 per share, saving Simon Property Group $800M.

People began flocking to King of Prussia Mall after the shopping mecca reopened last week following months of closure caused by the coronavirus pandemic, writes Sam Wood for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

AJ Moore, who owns and operates AJ Moore Exclusives, an artisanal jewelry shop in the Bloomingdale’s wing of the mall, was surprised to see so many people show up so soon after reopening.

“I thought it would be like a ghost town, but people seem to be more excited to come out,” said Moore. “I’ve seen more walk by today than in the days before we closed in mid-March.”

Still, while people are now out in big numbers, shopping does not seem to be their primary goal. Moore has noticed that not as many people were laden with bags as she would expect.

“You can tell people want to roam and see people again,” she said. “I don’t think the money is there, but the need to get out is prevalent.”

But she also noticed there was plenty of enthusiasm among the customers – one of whom even purchased a novelty T-shirt directly off a display mannequin.
