As a sports fan, Dr. Christopher Drumm, a Norristown family physician with Einstein Healthcare Network, is ready for pro sports to return, writes Katie Kohler for the Play Pennsylvania.

However, as a physician, he believes that it is too early.

“But there will not be a perfect answer/date for return until we have a vaccine or herd immunity,” said Drumm, who hosts the “Doc and the Deacon” podcast with Peter McKenney, a lay leader at a Free Methodist evangelical church.

The decision on when to resume playing is not going to be an easy one for professional athletes. He said that they have to weigh if “the benefit of playing and getting paid outweighs the risk of being isolated from his/her family for an extended time.”

However right now, he feels the bubble environments the NBA and NHL are implementing to allow their return to play at the end of the month could work.

Still, “it will be a sacrifice to these players,” he said. “They really have to limit their interactions and family experiences for a few months so pro sports can be played.”
