MCCC First Community College to Host Chapter of Honor Society for First-Generation Students
Montgomery County Community College is the first community college in the nation to host an Alpha Alpha Alpha National Honor Society chapter for first-generation college students.
Alpha Alpha Alpha, which became the fourth honor society at MCCC, was founded two years ago at Moravian College in Bethlehem. This recognizes students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are among the first generation in their family to attend college.
So far, 48 other four-year colleges and universities nationwide have been named Alpha Alpha Alpha National Honor Society chapters, including Penn State Abington.
“Becoming the first community college in the nation to be named a chapter of this distinguished honor society is further proof that Montgomery County Community College leads the way toward an enriching life for all of our students and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez, MCCC president.
To become an Alpha Alpha Alpha inductee, a student enrolled in an associate’s degree program must have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA and at least 36 credit hours earned towards their associate’s degree. Also, any of the student’s parents, stepparents, or legal guardians may not have completed a bachelor’s degree.
