Pennsylvania is the fourth worst state for racial equality in education, according to a study published by WalletHub.

A recent study found that school districts with a high concentration of white students receive $23 billion more in annual funding than those that have a high concentration of non-white students. This discrepancy in funding can lead to a lower quality of education for non-white students, in turn affecting that person’s income and career trajectory throughout their entire life.

To determine the ranking for its 2020’s Best States for Racial Equality in Education list, WalletHub compared the 50 states across six key metrics, including the difference between white and black Americans in areas such as high school and college degrees, test scores, and graduation rates.

In the overall ranking, Pennsylvania came 47th,  just ahead of Connecticut, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Among the specific metrics, the Keystone State placed 48th in public high school graduation rate, 47th in average ACT score, 44th in standardized-test scores, and 40th in mean SAT score.

However Pennsylvania fared somewhat better in the share of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree at 34th place and its share of adults with at least a high school degree at 31st place.
