Governor Tom Wolf is planning to move Montgomery County to the yellow phase on Friday, June 5, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. For residents, that doesn’t mean a return to spin class just yet.

Gyms and indoor recreational facilities are not permitted to open in the yellow phase, as outlined by the state’s website. Gyms will be allowed to open in the green phase, with restrictions. Admission must be reduced by half, and the state is encouraging facilities to offer appointments.

Montgomery County’s Office of Public Health refers residents to the state’s Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control website for information on COVID-19. Neither appears to offer specific recommendations for gyms to follow upon reopening.

Gyms open in other areas of the country are conducting temperature checks, reports The New York Times. Some are using less stationary equipment and encouraging members to clean the equipment after it’s used. Some have instituted online classes.

The state has set forth several parameters for moving into yellow and green phases. Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh tells the Philadelphia Inquirer the county is well-placed for a move into the yellow phase.

Until then, outdoor recreation is still an option. The state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources offers information on sites that are open.
