Montgomery County COVID-19 Saturday Update – April 25th
Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Friday afternoon press conference, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.
As of 10:00 AM Friday morning, Montgomery County reported 171 new COVID-19 cases, up from the 119 new cases reported Thursday.
Fifty-percent of the 171 new cases are a result of several long-term and congregate care facilities in Montgomery County beginning to test their residents and staff.
The 171 new cases, 93 of which were females, came from 41 municipalities and range in age from 16 to 98 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:
- 0 to 9 –
- 10 to 19 – 2
- 20 to 29 – 13
- 30 to 39 – 17
- 40 to 49 – 16
- 50 to 59 – 28
- 60 to 69 – 27
- 70 to 79 – 28
- 80 to 89 -31
- 90 to 99 – 10
- 100 to 109 – 0
The 171 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,383 countywide.
Of those 3,383 confirmed cases, 1,540 are male, 1,813 are female.
The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.7 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.
Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero COVID-19 cases to date.
Four of the County’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (315), Springfield (272), Cheltenham (262), and Abington (254), account for 1,103 (32.6%) of the positive cases countywide.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.
Of the 1,204 cases reported at these centers through Friday morning, 837 were residents and the balance, 367 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.
As of Friday, 89 of those facilities have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:
- 39 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
- 18 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
- 8 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
- 3 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
- 4 facilities with 21 to 25 cases
- 3 facilities with 26 to 30 cases
- 2 facilities with 31 to 35 cases
- 4 facilities with 36 to 40 cases
- 1 facility with 41 to 45 cases
- 2 facilities with 46 to 50 cases
- 1 facility with 51 to 55 cases
- 1 facility with 56 to 60 cases
- 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases
- 1 facility with 76 to 80 cases
Ten new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 50 to 89 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Friday.
Friday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 189, 138 (73%) of which were residents or staff of long-term or congregate care facilities in the county.
Ninety eight (51.9%) of Montgomery County’s 189 COVID-19 deaths are in five municipalities; Springfield Township (36), Upper Gwynedd Township (21), Abington (17), Upper Providence (13), and Lower Gwynedd (11).
The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 189 is 12.6% of the 1,472 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.
The County’s 3,383 COVID-19 cases represent 8.8-percent of the 38,652 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.
By comparison, as of noon Friday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 10,507 COVID-19 positive cases and 272 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
