Place Your Company’s Talent, Experience, and Passion at the Center of Montgomery County’s COVID-19 Conversation

By

With so much uncertainty about life beyond COVID 19, there’s never been a better time to insert your organization into the center of the conversation about Montgomery County’s coronavirus response efforts with a thought leadership post on MONTCO Today.

In the past several weeks, we’ve had two thought leadership posts draw more than 5,000 readers. One post on Friday about shifting unemployment compensation rules drew 5,300 pageviews in the first 12 hours and nearly 2,000 more page clicks over the weekend.

What is a thought leadership piece?

A thought leadership post is when you gather your organization’s collective talent, experience, and passion about a specific topic related to your organization’s focus and mission and provide insight about your clients’ most urgent and timely questions.

The answers you provide don’t need to be unique or earth-shattering. Instead, your insight should be consistent with your firm’s mission and message, expressed in a tone consistent with your reputation.

Why publish thought leadership posts?

A well-written thought leadership piece provides the reader with a deeper level of understanding about what may be for them a complex question. When it’s your company or nonprofit recommending a high-value approach, your organization becomes part of the conversation, raising your credibility and awareness.

That reputation is enhanced further when you regularly and consistently drop quality thought leadership posts into our news feed.

Six guidelines for creating effective thought leadership posts.

Thought leadership pieces shouldn’t generalize or promote your product or service – there will be time for that later. Instead, leadership posts should ideally follow these six Be guidelines:

  • Be Valuable – Common knowledge doesn’t cut it. Thought leadership posts should provide readers with insight and data they most likely don’t have.
  • Be Accurate – Dig deep. Use credible sources and data. Thought leadership posts are a great way to show off your firm’s expertise.
  • Be Actionable – Thought leadership posts should have at least one actionable takeaway or a guide to assist the reader through the decision-making process.
  • Be Targeted – Have a specific audience in mind. MONTCO Today’s audience is comprised of executives and senior to mid-level managers focused on getting their company, employees, and families through the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Be Brief – Readers’ attention spans are short. A MONTCO Today thought leadership post should be 300 to 500 words and readable in two to three minutes.
  • Be Consistent – Your thought leadership piece should reflect your organization’s mission and tone. Write in a style that reflects your organization’s reputation.

While your team should write the thought leadership piece, our team can help you through the process, beginning with brainstorming about possible topics.
