Everyone in Montgomery County has been ordered to stay at home by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf as of 8 p.m. Monday evening.

The order will continue until April 6, 2020. The hope is to stop the spread of COVID-19 cases which has been steadily rising in the state, threatening to overwhelm the healthcare system.

It dovetails with the governor’s orders issued this past weekend that all non-life sustaining businesses close down.

All schools statewide will also remain closed through at least April 6, 2020.

Under the stay at home order, individuals may leave residences for the following activities and essential travel:

• Maintaining health and safety for an individual or household (including pets). That includes buying food, medicine or medical supplies, visiting a health care professional or getting supplies needed to work at home.
• Getting needed services or supplies for the household or as part of volunteer efforts.
• Delivering services and supplies to others for their safety, sanitation and essential operation of residences.
• Outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking or running, while maintaining social distancing.
• Performing work providing essential products and services at a life-sustaining business.
• Caring for a family member or pet in another household.
• Travel to care for elderly, minors, dependents, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons.
• Travel to or from educational institutions to receive materials for distance learning, for receiving meals, and any other related services.
• Travel to return to a place of residence from an outside jurisdiction.
• Travel required by law enforcement or court order.
• Travel required for non-residents to return to their place of residence outside the commonwealth.

The following are permitted to operate:

• Life-sustaining business activities.
• Health care or medical services providers.
• Access to life-sustaining services for low-income residents, including food banks.
• Access to child care services for employees of life-sustaining businesses that remain open, including child care facilities under the Department of Human Services, Office of Child Development and Early Learning waiver process; group and family child care operating in a residence; and part-day school age programs operating under an exemption from the March 19, 2020 business closure Orders.
