Millennial mayors in Montgomery County are young, energetic, social media savvy, and determined to bring their post-industrial towns back from the dead no matter what, writes Sandy Hingston for the Philadelphia Magazine.

Among them is Pottstown Mayor Stephanie Henrick, who considers herself a part of “the Montgomery County Mayors Squad.”

Since she was sworn in she has had to break some misconception about small-town mayors, such as that they are not responsible for fixing potholes and dealing with code regulations. But she has also brought a unique flair to the town, including having Santa Claus arrive there via dragon boat.

Meanwhile, Royersford Mayor Jenna Antoniewicz gave an oath at her swearing in that was millennial to a tee.

“I promise to be present and thoughtful about what it means to serve as a liaison between you and borough council,” she said. “I promise to do my best to serve everyone in town, working with those who live, work and play here to promote an inclusive community for all.”

Meanwhile millennial Mayor Mark Barbee has helped Bridgeport revitalize the waterfront and have the borough council sign a joint statement on inclusivity.
