Having a daughter of her own drew Kim Fraites-Dow to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. Today, she is the CEO of the 55,000-member organization, which includes Delaware County, writes Lisa Dukart for Main Line Today.

“So I was deeply interested in developing strong girls. Joining an organization that was regional and serving a community across eastern Pennsylvania was also new and exciting for me. The mission is what brings everybody to Girl Scouts.”

Fraites-Dow began in 2011 as chief development and marketing office, later becoming COO.

Fraites-Dow grew up in a military family that traveled a lot. Her parents encouraged her to develop a strong sense of who she was.

That same sense of discovering a strong sense of self is part of the Girl Scout experience as well.

Girl Scouts learn skills in communication, leadership, problem solving, taking risks, learning from setbacks and growing as individuals.

The Girl Scouts were founded 100 years ago, during pre-wartime, before women had won the right to vote.  Their founder, Juliette Gordon Low, was a visionary who believed in the power of every girl to change the world, Fraites-Dow said.
