Avian Garcia, a student at Montgomery County Community College, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

The Hall of Fame found its home at MCCC in fall 2018. The scholarship is a way to honor the partnership between the two institutions while helping students be successful at the same time, said Hall of Fame President Dale Hood.

“The plaques of these great coaches are displayed in a place where they can be seen by thousands of people each year,“ he said. “Now we want to give back by helping deserving students at the college get an education that will serve them throughout their lives.”

Garcia, before receiving the scholarship, was unsure if he would actually go to college until a close family member convinced him to pursue higher education. So in fall last year, he started classes at MCCC, where he is a Liberal Studies major. Now he is considering a path in the film industry after he attends Temple University.

“I really appreciate being chosen for this scholarship,” Garcia said. “I am thankful for the opportunities to explore different subjects at MCCC and learn what I like.“
