Commissioners Give County Trails Major $$$$ Injection
Montgomery County Board of Commissioners has approved $18 million in funding for the development of trails on the Circuit Trails Network.
Montgomery County has allocated $10 million for local trails as part of its 2020 Capital budget and also leveraged $8 million in federal, state, and local grants. This investment will directly support seven trail projects within the county that are currently “in-progress” or in “pipeline” status.
“We are thrilled to see this funding commitment from Montgomery County in support of such regionally significant trail projects,” said Sarah Clark Stuart, Chair of the Circuit Trails Coalition. “Specifically, this funding allows us to move critical in-progress trails closer to completion.”
The projects that will benefit from this investment include the extension of Chester Valley Trail by 4 miles, Erdenheim Farm, Cross County, and Wissahickon Trails by 3 miles, and Pennypack Trail by 0.7 miles.
Also included is the Wissahickon Trail expansion feasibility study, Schuylkill River Trail design and engineering for Industrial Highway to US 422 expansion, Trail Junction Center design, and the Cross County Trail advanced expansion feasibility study.
One of the biggest results of this investment will be a major increase in connectivity for the Circuit Trails Network.
