Suzy Kolber, an Upper Dublin High graduate who paved the way for women in sports broadcasting, has been inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

Suzy Kolber, an Upper Dublin High graduate and ESPN broadcaster, was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame last week, writes Damichael Cole for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Early in her career, Kolber was usually the only woman among her hundreds of male colleagues at press conferences. But was frequently the one to ask the first question.

“When I first started, there were very, very few women,” Kolber recalled. “I honestly never felt different because I was doing what I loved.”

And while her career led her to cover events all over the globe, she still has an unbreakable bond with Philadelphia.

“It’s home,” she said. “If you’ve grown up or worked here, you have an edge that’s noticeable, and I’ve always been really proud of carrying that edge.”

In her rich journalistic career, Kolber has hosted NFL Live, NFL32 with Chris Mortensen, NFL Insiders, and SportsCenter. She has also reported on various other sports, including NASCAR, tennis, and horse racing.

Now she is also mentoring women who are trying to break into the business.
