SEPTA’s Old “We’re Getting There” Slogan May Be Gone But It Is Not Forgotten
SEPTA’s old “We’re Getting There” slogan from the eighties may be gone, but it has not been forgotten by local commuters, who to this day bring it up on social media, writes Patricia Madej for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The slogan came at a period when the transportation authority was reacting to numerous complaints by implementing a number of improvements. At the time, the management wanted to advertise the changes it was making to the public.
These included its new maintenance policies, improved services, and efforts to clean up its vehicles.
“They used to call SEPTA ‘inepta,’” said Rick Wooten, SEPTA’s then manager of public affairs.
In addition to posters with the slogan on city transit and to a lesser extent on Regional Rail, there was also a TV campaign with a 30-second commercial that ended with the slogan.
And while the reaction to the slogan might not have been that strong initially, over time it was embraced by local commuters so much that it remained even after it was discontinued from official use, and it even had a song dedicated to it.
