Narberth Civic Association is promoting sustainability by hosting its own sharable party kits that provide party planners with a way to organize waste-free events, writes Paige Wolf for the Shareable.

The lack of dishware or enough storage space is usually the biggest issue for people who would prefer to organize their parties without using disposable plastic alternatives.

One solution that has been growing in popularity as part of the zero-waste movement and sharing economy is the Zero Waste Party Pack.

The Montgomery County organization has been using similar packs at its own events, where guests use a selection of cloth napkins and real silverware.

The members of the association also have dining reusables they make available for loan. For instance, one member has a pack of more than 50 cloth napkins, while another has a 150-piece utensil set.

Meanwhile, others have large sets of plates or tablecloths available to borrow.

The association’s board is also moving toward establishing a more formal “lending library” process in the hopes it will encourage more residents and organizations to forego disposables in favor of shared materials for events.
