With three more women elected to Upper Gwynedd Township leadership in the last election, for the first time in the town’s history all of the commissioners are women, writes Michaelle Bond for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In January, newly elected Democrats Martha Simelaro, Katherine Carter, and Ruth Damsker will join incumbent Democratic Commissioners, Denise Hull and Liz McNaney.

In addition, any new laws the commissioners make for the town will be implemented by the township’s first female manager Sandra Brookley Zadell and the assistant manager Megan Weaver.

This means that in 2020, women will shape the direction of the 16,000-resident community.

The two incumbent commissioners have already made some changes to the board, including setting office hours for residents to bring their questions and concerns to them. They are also continuing the practice of knocking on doors to talk with people.

“We’re really looking forward to being able to collaborate with three very experienced, very diverse women,” said Hull. “All five of us are very open to innovation and new perspectives on things that have traditionally been done the same way for many years.”
