Montgomery County Community College will host Inside/Outside: Views from the Goebel Collection of Eastern University from October 16, 2019 to January 10, 2020 at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

The exhibition will feature prints from the late Renaissance through mid-1900s focusing on shifting perspectives of inside and outside spaces. The prints include architectural and city views; places of entertainment, commerce and contemplation; and imaginary or invented visions by some of the best known printmakers throughout history including Rembrandt, Piranesi, Goya and others.

The exhibit is co-curated by MCCC’s printmaking faculty instructor Sandra Scicchitani and Galleries Director Patrick Rodgers.

“A collection this rich in history and broad in media really tells us a lot about the intersections of art and everyday life,” says Rodgers. “So we wanted this show to be about the spaces of everyday life, both inside and outside, and all the human dramas that take place in both locations.  The depth of the collection is amazing: the earliest print in this exhibition is from 1540, and you can jump from there to a 1639 Rembrandt and from there to so many other places and points in history. We’re so grateful for this second collaboration with Eastern University around this collection. It is such an honor to be able to borrow and display such work here at the College.”

The Goebel Print Collection was donated to Eastern University in the 1960s by New York lawyer Harry C. Goebel. The full collection features over 1,300 original prints done in a variety of media including etching, wood engraving, and drawing. The prints range in date from 1498 to 1970, and the collection includes work from artists such as Manet, Chagall and Picasso.
