Local leaders, Ur Brewery, and Montgomery County Community College are joining forces on a unique venture in Lansdale, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.

Ur Brewery has applied for a state grant to help in the construction of their location in Lansdale. The business has received some help from Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, who wrote a letter in support of the brewery and its work.

In the letter, Herbert explained that Ur Brewery plans to work with Montgomery County Community College to provide an educational program that would be both scientific and historical.

“Ur Brewery will be teaming up with Montgomery County Community College to help college students learn the brewing process and how beer was made in colonial times,” he wrote. “By supporting this initiative we are both supporting continuing education and a new local business.”

Ur Brewery is a joint venture between Lou Farrell and Chuck Schroeder. The pair plans to bring a new twist to the already flourishing local microbrewery scene. The new brewery will brew old-time Philadelphia beers as they were originally produced between 1790 and 1965, thereby merging cultural and historical appreciation.

The opening date for the brewery is still unknown.
