Among the new additions and improvements are a 25 yard "short course" for swim team purposes, a wading poo and a zero entry swim area with water features.

Philadelphia Country Club, located in Lower Merion Township, is now over a month into its successful opening of the new resort style Pool and Pool Bar. PCC was able to meet its deadline of opening for Memorial Day Weekend, in which the Club welcomed over 1,200 members and guests.

The Swimming Pool retained its traditional 50 meter “long course” for competitive and casual lap swimming. Among the new additions and improvements are a 25 yard “short course” for swim team purposes, a wading pool for small children, and a zero entry swim area in the Main Pool with water features. The depth of the Main Pool ranges from the zero entry area to 12 feet with two (2) one-meter diving boards.

Philadelphia Country Club has an age-specific Swim Team that competes in the Country Club Swim Association Summer Swimming League. The Club’s new Pool will host several Swim Meets this summer including the 11th Annual Long Course Classic on July 18th.

In addition to the Swim Team, frequent family events such as Friday Float Nights, Cookouts and Sundaes on Sunday are poolside hits for Members of all ages.

“We have a rich aquatic tradition, going back to our original Bala clubhouse,” said Ted Barry, President of PCC. “When the club moved to Gladwyne in the 1950s, John B. Kelly, Sr. (father of Princess Grace of Monaco), was the strongest proponent of the Club’s swim program and Olympic-size pool. As a 40-year PCC member myself, who spent countless hours in our pool, I am delighted by our new and improved resort style pool complex which has quickly proven to be the most popular project in our Club’s nearly 130-year history. It is truly the place to be at PCC!”

The Pool is open through Labor Day. The Club anticipates that the addition of the pool heater will allow for an extended swim season and the ability to remain open on weekends throughout the fall.
