The grants, including a $200,000 grant to support Schwenksville's Main Street Pedestrian Plaza project, continue an exciting program aimed at implementing the county comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision.

Schwenksville Borough has completed the first phase of improvements for the Main Street Plaza, which was funded by a 2017 Montco 2040 Implementation Grant.

The $200,000 grant, aimed at implementing the county comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision, is one of thirteen recently awarded by the Montgomery County Commissioners. These 2017 grant awards accounted for $1,040,000. Since the program’s inception in 2016, over $2 million has been awarded to projects.

Schwenksville Borough converted a former fire house driveway and parking lot into a Pedestrian Plaza and Pedestrian Connector to the Perkiomen Trail, Meadow Park and newly constructed shared public parking. The 2019 planned renovations for the former fire house will include a Community Room that opens up onto the Plaza and which can be rented by the public for private functions or used for expanded and weather restricted public functions.

“This project transformed the center of town and is now the backbone of an area of town we’re calling the H.E.A.R.T. of Schwenksville” The acronym embodies the themes of engaging the past in the present and stands for Historic, Engaging, Authentic, Recreational, and Timeless. “Our goal was to engage the public by creating a sense of place that everyone will want to embrace. It has already made an impact and we’ve had residents and businesses contact us to ask how they can donate and contribute to the Plaza. We’re very excited.” – Anne Klepfer, Borough Manager

The Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program is intended to assist municipalities in making targeted physical improvements that achieve real progress toward the goals of Montco 2040 and its themes of Connected Communities, Sustainable Places, and Vibrant Economy.
