GTM, a local full-service corporate tax accounting firm with a culture built on giving back, has been making an impact in the MONTCO community and beyond. They recently were named an honoree in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2019 Faces of Philanthropy for their regional partnership with Autism Speaks, but they also serve many other not-for-profits. In this article, we highlight two MONCTO organizations reaping the benefits of GTM’s philanthropic efforts.

The Pathway School/GTM connection all started with the volunteerism of one GTM employee. It has since blossomed into a long-term company relationship including internship opportunities for students, an annual GTM Day of Service, and sponsorship of Pathway’s Legacy Gala and golf outing, FORE! the kids.

GTM’s participation in Pathway’s Career Education Program delivers essential work-readiness opportunities to students who have specialized needs such as autism. GTM provided two students with an internship, allowing their company to assume the role of mentor without the direct supervision of a Pathway staff. This unique opportunity resulted in positive outcomes for students Shawn Luther and Matt Mobley and the GTM mentors, who took the student’s success personally. Shawn and Matt bring value to GTM through their job skills, and by personifying GTM’s belief that the business world should focus on an employee’s ability rather than disability.

David Schultheis, Pathway’s President, said “We as a society are headed in the right direction. That said, there is still a lot of stigma to erase. GTM has scratched the surface of what Shawn and Matt can do for them.”

ACLAMO and GTM connected through the friendship of a few Bishop Kenrick graduates (and GTM employees) who wanted to give back to the Latino community. Since then, GTM has participated in ACLAMO’s educational initiatives, volunteered technology consulting services, donated office furniture and laptops for their learning centers and sponsored their annual Culinary Celebration.

ACLAMO’s educational initiatives include career readiness activities which are incorporated into their learning centers and clubs to provide students with internship and work experience opportunities. GTM offered an internship to two students, Gladys Balbuena and Kaylee Lizama. They experienced hands-on work to grow the skills needed to succeed in the workplace and life. Post GTM, both completed a Counselor-in-Training Program at Morris Arboretum and are currently employed as Teacher Assistants in ACLAMO’s After School Program. The work they completed at GTM increased their confidence for future success and inspired other ACLAMO students to pursue the program.

“GTM’s culture and commitment of giving is evident through their sharing of time and resources. The kindness and respect shown by their employees send us a clear message that we are not alone, and we have their support to empower the Latino community. I thank GTM for their ongoing support” Nelly Jimenez, Executive Director & CEO, ACLAMO Family Centers.
