German grocer Lidl is continuing to grow its presence on the East Coast with a new acquisition. The company announced Friday it acquired Long Island-based Best Market and its 27 grocery stores in New York and New Jersey, writes Jon Banister for biznow.com.

Next year, Lidl will begin remodeling and rebranding the Best Market stores to its own brand. The company said it is offering employment opportunities to all of Best Market’s existing workers.

Lidl operates over 10,000 stores across 29 countries, largely in Europe and Asia. It broke into the U.S. in 2015 when it acquired a building for its U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, roughly 1 mile from the site Amazon selected last week for half of its HQ2.

In June 2017, Lidl opened its first 10 U.S. stores in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The company now has more than 50 stores across seven East Coast states from New Jersey to Georgia.
