GSK awards Greater Philadelphia nonprofits making a dynamic IMPACT on health outcomes

ACLAMO serves Montgomery County and rovides educational programs, social services and access to health and wellness programs to Latinos and the community.

GSK  announced the GSK IMPACT Award Winners in a ceremony at GSK’s Navy Yard site. Ten local nonprofits were awarded $40,000 each in recognition of their outstanding contributions to building a healthier Philadelphia region.  This highly competitive program, in its 22nd year, highlights organizations that are working hand-in-hand with the community to improve health.

“Healthy communities support healthy people,” said Patrick Desbiens, Senior Vice President, US Vaccines, Pharmaceuticals, GSK.  “Our 2018 GSK IMPACT Award Winners are working with people to develop innovative solutions to improve health outcomes across the Greater Philadelphia area.”

The winners are:

  • ACLAMO Family Centers @ACLAMOFamCenter — serving Montgomery County. It provides educational programs, social services and access to health and wellness programs to Latinos and community members to empower them to fully achieve their life potential.
  • CASA Youth Advocates, Inc. @delcocasapa — serving Delaware and Chester counties. It creates social and family supports for children in Delaware and Chester counties who have suffered the most egregious adverse childhood experiences: physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and removal from home.
  • Drueding Center — It serves the most vulnerable homeless families in Philadelphia ensuring that they have the skills and resources to live independently and reach their individual measure of success.
  • Greener Partners @greenerpartners — serving Montgomery County. It improves community health in under-resourced communities through food, farms and education.
  • HUNE, Inc. @philahune — It works with youth with disabilities, and families of children and youth with disabilities, to improve their educational and lifelong goals.
  • Healthy NewsWorks @healthynewswks — serving Delaware County. It empowers elementary and middle school students to promote health, well-being, and literacy for their peers, families and communities.
  • Institute for the Development of African-American Youth, Inc.@idaayinc It works with low-income at-risk youth and their families in Philadelphia by providing opportunities for employment, internship, education and community service.
  • Justice At Work @JusticeAtWorkPA It supports low-wage workers as they pursue economic and social justice through the provision of legal services, education and advocacy.
  • PAR-Recycle Works @PARRecycleWorks It is an electronics recycler that provides transitional employment to people reintegrating into society from prison.
  • Youth United for Change @YUCPhilly It develops young leaders in Philadelphia to empower them to improve the quality of their lives and communities.

The winners were selected by a panel of local and national community leaders through a competitive process. The nonprofits needed to demonstrate innovative, measured and sustainable approaches to addressing at least one of the following health factors: 1) Nutrition & Physical Activity, 2) Education, 3) Housing & Built Environment, 4) Employment, 5) Community Safety 6) and Family & Social Support.

 

In the Philadelphia region, the GSK IMPACT Awards are presented in partnership with The Philadelphia Foundation.
