Amazon continues to automate its operations with its newest patent — a Roomba-like robot that will haul products to and from freight trucks at fulfillment centers.

The online retail giant aims to speed up delivery of products, including groceries from Whole Foods, writes Casey Coombs at bizjournals.com.

The robots already transport shelves full of inventory inside  warehouses.

In addition to fulfillment centers, the robots could be used in “mail order warehouses, supply chain distribution centers, airport luggage systems, and custom-order manufacturing facilities,” the patent filing states.
