Team Children in Audubon focuses on giving kids equal opportunities
Team Children has always been committed to helping children in need, and now the organization is expanding that mission with a new challenge.
Team Children was created to “ensure that every child has the tools and opportunities necessary to contribute and compete effectively in the digital environment of the 21st century,” according to the website, writes Monica Sager in the Pottstown Mercury.
Team Children, run completely by volunteers, offers tries to help kids achieve and grow through technology and with a “hands-on” approach.
Robert Toporek, president and cofounder of Team Children, said the business has already distributed over 17,000 computers, reaching over 75,000 kids. They sell laptops for between $125 and $185. Desktops are for $65 or $140. Team Children is going to end the distribution of desktops by the end of the year, according to Toporek. Toporek presently wants to continue reaching kids with Team Children’s education challenge.
“I just looked up Pottstown and their school district, they have some schools that are doing really well, like Owen J. Roberts if you’re lucky enough to go there,” Toporek said. “And if you go to East Coventry Elementary School or Pottsgrove Senior High School, you’re going to do much better than if you were to go to Pottsgrove Middle School, which ranks a four.”
