Philly area hospitals receive ‘A’ safety grade

Fifteeen Philadelphia area hospitals, including Einstein Medical Center Montgomery and Abington Health Lansdale, recently received an “A” for hospital safety from the Leapfrog Group in its bi-annual report issued Tuesday.

The 15 were selected from among 53 area medical centers that were graded, writes John George at bizjournals.com.

The report focuses on hospital errors, accidents, injuries and infections — which collectively, according to the nonprofit organization, are the third-leading cause of death in the United States.

The Leapfrog Group graded about 2,500 hospitals, of which 30 percent earned an “A,” 28 percent  a “B,” 35 percent a “C,” 6 percent a “D” and 1 percent an “F.”
