“If you build it, he will come.”

Most people remember that iconic line from the movie “Field of Dreams,” when Kevin Costner’s character hears a voice as he’s walking through his cornfield, and while the situations may not be the same, the sentiment is nearly spot on.

J.P. Mascaro & Sons have built not one, but three baseball fields, along with a community park, all in honor of one of their own.

And they want all of you to come out on March 31, at noon, for the Francesco A. Mascaro baseball fields and community park, Woodland Ave., Lower Providence,  dedication ceremony and opening day baseball game.

“The Park is emblematic of my brother, Frank — it is of the highest quality,” said Pat Mascaro, president of J.P. Mascaro & Sons. “I know he would be satisfied with how the park will benefit the community at large.”

Francesco A. Mascaro, was affectionately known as ‘The Chief’ by friends and family. He was born March 5, 1947 and grew up with his family on Lauman Avenue in Lower Providence, right next to the baseball fields and community park being dedicated in his memory.

Frank was one of five brothers who own J.P. Mascaro & Sons, a company founded by their father, Joseph P. Mascaro Sr. Frank attended Bishop Kenrick and Methacton high schools, where he was a gifted athlete displaying his skills on the basketball court and on the baseball field. He was particularly passionate about baseball.

He dedicated his work life to his family business, and he dedicated his personal life to helping others. There are many individuals, churches, schools, charitable causes and community organizations that were continually touched by his generosity. Those who knew Frank knew him to be the ultimate ‘giver,’ whose unselfishness had no limits and was unmatched.

Frank had a special place in his heart for children of all ages and enjoyed watching them play and compete. There could be no more fitting tribute to the memory of Frank ‘The Chief’ Mascaro than the baseball fields and community park that now bear his name and will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Ceremonial first pitches will be thrown out by former Phillies great Bobby Wine, former MLB All-Star relief pitcher Mike McDougal, Pasquale N. Mascaro Jr. and James Lee Mascaro.
