Reading Terminal Market officials are launching its first individual giving campaign that will give local shoppers and tourists a chance to see the names of supporters of the food hall and shopping destination.

Reading Terminal Market officials launched a fundraising campaign called Wall of Diamonds whereby customers can purchase personalized diamond-shaped plaques that will be displayed in the market, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Wall of Diamonds is the market’s first individual giving campaign, commemorating its upcoming 125th anniversary and supporting the market’s capital improvement program, which includes the transformation of Filbert Street.

“We have never presented an opportunity for individuals who care about the market beyond attending Party for the Market,” General Manager Anuj Gupta told the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Memorial walls are a common approach nonprofits use to showcase supporters and to raise funds for capital improvements, such as the ones to maintain the 125-year-old Reading Terminal Market building.

The plaques will be available for $125, and will be offered back to purchasers to keep after one year of display. They will be fabricated by metalsmith Jason Roberts, a local artist chosen to help in the redesign of Filbert Street.

The goal is to create 200 plaques, resulting in about $25,000 for capital improvements, Gupta said.

Market officials every year set aside funds from its budget to pay for capital improvement projects “that have an intended lifespan of several years,” Gupta said.
