Life Time Athletic in King of Prussia has been forced to demolish its indoor pool only three months after opening after an issue with a collapsed hole, writes John Rawlins for 6abc.

The gaping hole suddenly appeared two weeks ago, collapsing the coping and adjacent deck at the corner of the indoor pool. The gym posted an image on its Facebook page and scheduled the demolition of the pool for last weekend.

Sean Scott, Life Time Athletics member, estimated that the drop below the deck was around 1.5 to 2 feet.

In an email to members, Life Time Athletic did not mention the collapse. Instead, the gym notified members that the inside pools were closed but the outdoor pools will remain open until the end of September.

Life Time spokesman said that it appears the collapse was triggered by water eroding the soil underneath the pool deck. But some believe it may have been a sinkhole and Scott agrees this could be the case.

“It’s very common in this area, especially King of Prussia,” he said.
