King of Prussia’s e-commerce company Radial is planning to hire 27,000 seasonal workers to stay ahead of the demands of the holiday season, writes Michelle Caffrey for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The e-commerce company employs around 600 at its King of Prussia headquarters and is second only to Amazon in its operational and seasonal base.

This year the company hope its pre-planning will help the company’s 25 fulfillment and six customer service centers across the country and in Canada and Europe to better weather the usual holiday panic.

The increase will boost its workforce by around 35 percent for the second consecutive time. Just last year, the company hired 20,000 extra seasonal workers which was 5,000 more than the year before.

“Our retailers that we work with are projecting an increase in sales,” said Chief Product Officer Stefan Weitz. “We’ve just seen year over year that this industry is seeing more e-commerce as people enjoy the convenience of shopping online.”

The growth of Radial’s activities is in stark contrast to the falling operations suffered by brick-and-mortar retailers, highlighting their current pain from the unprecedented growth in online shopping.
