Clean Energy Jobs in Pennsylvania Have Grown by Six Percent in Last Year
A new study has found that Pennsylvania recorded a six percent growth in clean energy jobs over the last year, writes Michelle Caffrey for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Currently, there are 70,000 people working in the sector in some way, 23,000 of them in the Philadelphia region.
.
This third annual study is the result of a co-operation between Environmental Entrepreneurs and Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance. The data for the study was compiled by BW Research, which first had to define exactly what a clean energy job was.
The majority of positions in the study focus on energy efficiency, with over 55,000 people employed in areas such as HVAC services, advanced building materials, installation and LED lighting.
Geographically, Greater Philadelphia has the highest number of clean energy jobs, followed by Pittsburgh with 14,000. The rest are distributed throughout the state.
“People can think this is an urban issue, that the jobs are based in Philly and Pittsburgh,” said Matt Elliott, Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance Executive Director. In fact, “the jobs are everywhere and represent a real important part of Pennsylvania’s economy.”
