House of the Week: Stunning Estate in Wyndmoor

By

A stunning estate on Montgomery Avenue in Wyndmoor with a six-bedroom and five-full-bath French/English country home is available for sale for $4,250,000.

A picturesque four-acre estate in Wyndmoor centered around an elegant six-bedroom, five-full-bathroom French/English stone country home is available for sale, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

The Ropsley estate was built at the beginning of the last century by Francis S. McIlhenny, an executive of Sun Oil. It was designed by the renowned Philadelphia architectural firm Mellor, Meigs, and Howe to take full advantage of its northward-sloping lot.

The property has changed owners several times since, some of whom drastically altered its original design. However, the current owners have returned the property to its former glory with the help of architect John Todd.

Now, the gorgeous vaulted ceilings and rich woodwork give a sense of character and originality alongside its modern chef’s kitchen and updated bathrooms. The second-floor has an in-law/au pair suite and there is an additional third floor suite with kitchenette and laundry.

There are also two guest cottages on the property which has easy access to both SEPTA Regional Rail and Chestnut Hill.
