Harriton, Lower Merion, Wissahickon Tops Montco Contingent of Best High Schools

Six Montgomery County schools are among the 40 top-rated public high schools in the Philadelphia region, according to a new list by the Philadelphia Magazine. (Image via Montgomery County Planning Commission)

Harriton Senior High School led a group of four Montgomery County schools that ranked in the statewide top 15 in the latest public high school rankings for Pennsylvania, and seven more joined them in the top 50.

Based on academics, diversity, teachers, college prep, clubs and activities, and health and safety as determined by U.S. Department of Education data and Niche analysis, Harriton was No. 3 in the state and also claimed No. 73 nationally in the Niche 2018 Best Public High Schools rankings.


Behind Harriton was No. 8 Lower Merion, No. 12 Wissahickon and No. 15 North Penn high schools. Other high-performing local schools included No. 23 Spring-Ford, No. 25 Methacton, No. 26 Plymouth-Whitemarsh, No. 27 Lower Moreland and No. 32 Upper Merion, all of which earned A+ grades from the school and neighborhood review website.

Earning an A were No. 42 Upper Dublin and No. 45 Perkiomen Valley.
