Rosemont’s Tony Braithwaite aims to entertain and educate Ambler residents with his new Act II Playhouse show, “Didn’t Your Father Have This Talk With You?”, writes Rita Charleston for Chestnut Hill Local.

Braithwaite, who grew up in Bala Cynwyd and is a former theology and sex education teacher at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, started in the theater when he was thirteen.

He began appearing at Act II Playhouse fourteen years ago, and became its artistic director in 2012. Over the years, he has written, directed, and starred in numerous productions, including several autobiographical one-man shows.

His latest production, which runs until July 30, was inspired by his twelve years teaching high school freshmen. The show includes several different elements including stand-up comedy, personal testimonials, one-liners, improvisation, audience interaction and rap music.

“Teaching those subjects to 14-year-old boys at the school from 1994 to 2006 was the best thing I ever did to hone my skills,” said Braithwaite. “Then, when I was fortunate enough to be handed the reins at Act II, I knew I had to do this show.”
