Three Montco Organizations Receive PLCB Grants to Help Prevent Underage and Reckless Drinking

Three organizations from Montgomery County have received a PLCB grants to help in their efforts at reducing underage and reckless alcohol consumption.

Three Montgomery County organizations have received Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s grants to help in their efforts at reducing underage and reckless alcohol consumption.

PLCB’s 2017-19 Alcohol Education Grant Program has distributed a record $2.3 million to 66 organizations in 33 counties across the state. Recipients include schools, community organizations, law enforcement and nonprofits.

“This year, we’re awarding a record amount of funding to the most grant recipients we’ve ever approved through this grant program” said PLCB Chairman Tim Holden.

Family Services of Montgomery County will use its $38,116 grant to implement a Strengthening Families Program for 10 to 14-year-olds. This family skills training helps reduces problem behaviors, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children. It has also been shown to improve social competencies and school performance.

Plymouth Township Police Department received a grant of $40,000 to fund several school programs, such as its Alcohol Education/Survival 101 as well as community events.

Meanwhile, Marlborough Township Police Department is planning to use its $37,434 grant to fund officer training and new equipment.

“Preventing underage and irresponsible drinking is an important part of our mission, one we take very seriously,” said Holden.
