Cassie Slane and Ami Van Dine came up with a unique business idea during their daughters’ playdate which has now become a booming business, writes Jonathan Takiff for Philly.com.

The two Lower Merion mompreneurs founded Dreamland Fairy which has already sold tens of thousands of Fairy House kits through independent toy stores and Amazon. The kits help children paint their own fairy house to place near their bed and lure in the magical creatures.

“When we did our due diligence, we didn’t find anyone else making a small, indoor fairy house that kids could decorate on their own,” said Slane.

On Saturday, the pair presented their latest product, Mermaid Grotto, at the indie American Specialty Toy Retailing Association Marketplace conference.

The popularity of their products has retailers begging Dreamland Fairy for new additions every few months. But the two women are keeping the number of designs limited due to logistical issues.

“That’s the hardest part of the business,” said Slane. “Lots of things are out of your control.”
