Solar Power Brings Electricity and Jobs to the Region
Bryn Mawr is seeing an increase in the use of solar power to power people’s homes, writes Susan Phillips for State Impact.
According to PECO, the number of households that are planning to install solar panels on their rooftops more than tripled between 2015 and 2016.
Nick DiPatri from Bryn Mawr recently installed solar panels on the roof of his home. He said that the election of Donald Trump had helped him and his wife decide to go solar to do their part for the environment.
“But even if you forget all those hippie motivations, it’s a pretty good money move right now,” said DiPatri.

The process is not cheap as DiPatri paid over $18,000 for his installation. However, he says it will pay for itself within nine years, by not having to pay for electricity and through selling any extra energy back to the grid.
“So during the day when you’re producing the most electricity, you’re actually not using all of it,” he explained. “There’s a little box inside the house that redirects the energy back out onto the wires and it literally drives my neighbor’s houses. It’s like my house is the battery for the block.”
