Mended Little Hearts Philadelphia Helps Montgomery County Moms through Hard Times
Mended Little Hearts Philadelphia Area is providing much needed support for mothers from Montgomery County whose children suffer from congenital heart disease, writes Peg Quann for Bucks County Courier Times.
The non-profit gives them guidance and support when navigating the medical system. It is also there to offer support when things get really scary.
Vincenza Dever, a math teacher from Abington, said that Mended Little Hearts was a sanity saver when her child was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Dever’s daughter, Francesca, was not diagnosed with prolonged QT syndrome until an EKG showed an irregular heartbeat after birth.
Dever said that while her husband, Jim, and other family members are all supportive and help care for the now three-year-old child, she still needs the Mended Little Hearts family too.

Started four years ago, the local Mended Little Hearts chapter now helps around 40 families from the Greater Philadelphia region. Many discover its benefits through their children’s doctors, hospitals or social media.
The mothers helped by the nonprofit also found the recent heartfelt announcement by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel about his son’s serious heart issue easily relatable.
“It’s scary to think there’s something wrong with your baby’s heart,” said Dever.
