Plymouth Meeting Teen Wins Prescription Overdose Awareness Billboard Contest
Plymouth Meeting teen Maddy Fair was honored by the Montgomery County commissioners at their last board meeting by winning the County’s Prescription Overdose Awareness Billboard Contest, according to a staff report from The Times Herald.
“Maddy’s design highlights the tragic personal toll of substance use disorder and how it changes people in ways they can’t imagine,” said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, chairwoman of the board of commissioners.
Middle and high school students from the county’s school districts were invited by the Montgomery County’s Overdose Task Force and the Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
The idea is to design a billboard that would hold a message for those in need of help and an explanation on how to get it.
The contest received 31 designs from high schools around Montgomery County, and the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School junior’s design, which incorporated her own photo, was one of 11 finalists.
The finalists and winner were selected by popular vote on the county’s website from 2,786 online votes cast, nearly 200 more than the previous year.
Maddy’s’s winning design will be displayed on 13 digital billboards throughout the county from April through June.
