Harriton, Lower Merion Crack State’s Top 5 Public High Schools

Top 5-ranked public high schools Harriton and Lower Merion led the way for Montgomery County’s class of 19 A-graded high schools.

Harriton Senior High School in Rosemont and Lower Merion High School in Ardmore led a score of other Montgomery County public high schools with high A+ marks in the new 2017 Best Public High Schools in America rankings by Niche.com.

At No. 4 and No. 5 in all of Pennsylvania, Harriton and Lower Merion helped give Montgomery County one of the best showings around. Nearby Conestoga High School in Berwyn and Radnor High School took the No. 1 and 2 spots.

The rankings by Niche.com gave 19 Montco schools As — 13 of those an A+ — based on state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality and high school ratings.

After Harriton and Lower Merion, the A+ grades were given to state-ranked No. 12 Wissahickon, No. 13 North Penn, No. 20 Spring-Ford, No. 23 Plymouth-Whitemarsh, No. 32 Lower Moreland, No. 35 Upper Merion, No. 39 Upper Dublin, No. 40 Methacton, No. 50 Springfield Township, No. 52 Perkiomen Valley and No. 54 Souderton.

Earning an A were No. 62 Cheltenham, No. 64 Abington, No. 80 Jenkintown, No. 100 Hatboro-Horsham and No. 106 Pottsgrove, while No. 133 Upper Moreland garnered an A-.

Just behind them were No. 191 Norristown and No. 228 Upper Perkiomen, both with a B+ grade, and no Montgomery County school fared worse than a B-, which No. 435 Pottstown received.
