Wynnewood’s long-awaited new Whole Foods store at 15 East Wynnewood Road will be throwing open its doors today for its grand opening, writes Susan Greenspon for Main Line Media News.

While Whole Foods is not a newcomer to Wynnewood, as it has been operating out of a much smaller location at 339 East Lancaster Avenue since 1995, this new store marks an important milestone.

The new location has been on the drawing board since Sept. 2012 and was given the green light by the Lower Merion Township Building and Planning Committee in April 2013. However, despite the project being deemed “transformative” by the township planning staff, construction delays meant Wynnewood had to wait an extra year for the opening.

The new 19,549-square-foot grocery store will also feature an open-air coffee and juice bar, in addition to its trademark offerings.

“We’ll have 180 produce items,” said Anna Cull, PR specialist for Whole Foods. “Up to a third to a half will be locally grown, depending on the season.”
