Bimbo Bakeries, baker of the freshest, highest-quality breads, buns, tortillas, cookies, and more, has several Montgomery County careers available.

Despite falling gas prices over the last year, many companies that operate large fleets of vehicles, including Horsham-based Bimbo Bakeries USA, are still trying to find alternative, more environmentally friendly ways to fuel them, writes Joanie Spencer for Baking Business.

“Bimbo’s corporate philosophy is to bring together our economic and social goals with awareness and commitment to reduce our environmental footprint,” said Gary Maresca, senior director of fleet services for BBU.

This is why BBU has turned to liquefied petroleum gas, commonly known as propane, from Roush CleanTech to fuel its fleets in Chicago, Denver, and Washington, D.C. So far, the new fuel has served its corporate sustainability efforts well.

“The lower emissions and aggregate contribution to a green and sustainable operation are some of the more prominent benefits to date,” said Maresca.

One of the added incentives in choosing alternative fuels lies in grant-funding options available in certain areas, such as the Colorado and Maryland markets. They were picked for that exact reason by BBU.

“Our strategy is to continue to pursue LPG opportunities wherever significant grant funds can be secured,” said Maresca.
