Anthony Valerio’s Café Excellence in Audubon has been rebranded as Valerio Coffee Roasters following the owner’s shift to certified organic, fair-trade coffee, writes Gary Puleo for The Pottstown Mercury.

“This was a good way to expand our business, and I wanted to do this brand so that we could actually do more for the farmers,” said Valerio.

In developing his new line, Valerio worked with Fair Trade USA. This ensures that local farmers who cultivate and harvest the beans are compensated with a fair wage, no matter the current global price.

“Fair trade protects them, and when the market goes down, they still get their money,” said Valerio.

Valerio Roasters offers coffees from single-origin, specialty beans, grown at more than 2,000 feet above sea level in Peru, Honduras, and the Congo.

“More and more people have an interest in our coffee, and more and more restaurants are focusing their menus on fair-trade organic or specialty coffee, and we’re more of a fit for them now,” said Valerio.
