David P. Smeltzer, CFO of Aqua America, the publicly traded water utility based in Bryn Mawr, has announced the promotion of Stan Szczygiel to vice president, finance and treasurer.

In addition to his previous responsibilities, Szczygiel will assume oversight of the company’s accounts payable, payroll, and treasury operations — all areas in which he has prior experience.

Szczygiel began his career with Aqua in 2006 as the controller for its southern operations and was later promoted to director of planning before becoming vice president, finance.

Aqua America President and CEO Christopher Franklin referred to Szczygiel as a “top pick,” when he was promoted to vice president of finance in July 2015, citing his “sharp, analytical mind” and his portfolio of experience with acquisitions and mergers, both at Aqua and previous employers including Exxon, Foster Management Companies, and NovaCare.

Szczygiel has a B.S. in accounting from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. from Drexel University. He earned his CPA while working at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC).
