The Prime Healthcare Foundation, the purchaser of Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton, has committed to invest $40 million in capital improvements at the hospital over the next five years, writes Justin Heinze of the Norristown Patch.

The hospital, purchased from Mercy Health System, will retain its not-for-profit status as a member of the Prime Healthcare Foundation.

The hospital opened in 1944 as Riverview Hospital on 740 Sandy Street in Norristown.

The Prime Healthcare Foundation, a public charity dedicated to improving access to healthcare and increasing educational opportunities in healthcare, has donated millions of dollars to support free community clinics, nonprofit organizations, scholarships, and academic programs.

“Prime Healthcare looks forward to working with the physicians, nurses, and employees at Suburban Community Hospital to ensure the best care for the patients they serve,” said Prem Reddy, CEO of Prime Healthcare. “We believe that every community deserves exceptional healthcare close to home.

“Prime hospitals are consistently ranked among the best hospitals in the nation, and we have no doubt that Suburban Community Hospital will continue that legacy.”

Prime Healthcare named Peter Adamo as CEO of Suburban Community Hospital.

Adamo is currently serving as CEO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital, another Prime Healthcare hospital in nearby Philadelphia, and will continue to lead both facilities.
