Sports Authority to Close Its Doors, Including Those in Abington
Sports Authority, the popular national retail chain for new and used sports equipment, will close all of its more than 450 locations across the country as part of a bankruptcy filing. The sports retailer filed for Chapter 11 in March and is carrying over $1 billion in debt, according to Forbes, and has decided to liquidate all assets and pursue a sale. The company, headquartered in Englewood, CO, has stores in 41 states and employs more 14,500 people.
Tompkins VIST Bank Coming to Pottstown
The state Department of Banking and Securities approved Berks County-based Tompkins VIST Bank’s application to open a branch at 258 East High Street in Pottstown. The building currently houses staff of Tompkins Insurance. The bank plans to add full-service banking capabilities to the location by the third quarter. The branch will be the bank’s sixth in Montgomery County.
Einstein Opening Outpatient Center in KOP in June
Einstein Healthcare Network is spending $5.7 million to open an outpatient center in King of Prussia in June, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The 30,000 square-foot facility will offer primary care and specialties, such as orthopedics, obstetrics, and gynecology, as well as outpatient radiology for diagnostic imaging and a satellite of MossRehab.
Montco Tourism Officials Hope to Cash in on DNC
With the Democratic National Convention coming to town, tourism officials in Montgomery County, are hoping to get their piece of the pie, writes Jim Melwert of CBS Philly. Montgomery County commissioner Josh Shapiro said tourism and travel is key to the county’s economy. Montco officials have reached out to the 19 delegations to the DNC who will be staying in the county, and touted dining, shopping, parks, and other activities.
